How do you think the world of career transition is changing?

“Well, I guess I’ve been around for a long time and the thing that’s marvelous was seeing it being accepted. What we’re doing is becoming part of business life and when I first started, as I said earlier, that was certainly not the case. It was something strange and alien to the corporate world.

So that’s been a marvelous breakthrough that’s happened. I think the thing that disturbs me somewhat though is that it’s becoming a little bit too process driven in some situations, and some other suppliers are perhaps tightening it up so much that people are not being allowed to spend quality time during their transition.

I remember saying to someone once, when they suggested that the group they were being made redundant would just have one session or something with the consultant: ‘Well, I think it’s better to go and buy them a bottle of champagne – it’s probably going to be just as effective’...”
